Emma Brackett, portrayed by Kaley Cuoco, is a devoted wife to her husband Dave, played by David Oyelowo, and a loving mother to their two children. She has successfully managed to create a harmonious life, juggling her responsibilities as a working woman. However, unbeknownst to her family, Emma's professional facade hides a secret life as a hired assassin. Upon returning from one of her assignments, Emma discovers that she has become the target of international assassins, who have placed a substantial bounty on her head. In order to clear her name and ensure her family's safety, she is compelled to embark on yet another dangerous mission. Amidst the chaos of her demanding career, Emma inadvertently forgets her wedding anniversary. To make amends, Dave surprises her with a playful role-play scenario, suggesting that they meet as strangers in a hotel bar the following day, hoping to inject some excitement into their relationship. On the designated day, with their children under the care of Dave's sister Molly, Emma dresses provocatively and eagerly awaits Dave's arrival at the agreed-upon bar. While waiting, she encounters a man named Bob Kellerman, portrayed by Bill Nighy, who offers her a drink and subtly hints at their shared professional connections. After Bob departs, leaving Emma and Dave to their own devices, Dave becomes heavily intoxicated, eventually passing out in their hotel room. Seizing the opportunity, Emma decides to eliminate Bob, viewing him as a potential threat to her safety and professional reputation.

Emma's decision to visit her handler, Raj, and update him on the events at the hotel takes a turn for the worse. Simultaneously, Dave becomes frantic upon learning of Bob's demise, especially since the police can link the death to both him and Emma, as they were the last individuals seen interacting with Bob. Despite the urgency, Emma advises Dave to wait until Monday as she has an imperative trip to Boise where her immediate presence is required. The following day, Emma assures her family that she will return from her journey within a few days and arrange to meet Dave at the airport. However, as promised, when Dave arrives at the airport, he is promptly approached by the detective responsible for investigating Bob's death.

Dave learns a shocking revelation at the police station: Bob, also known as Robert Kellerman, was not only an international killer but was also murdered by his wife, who happens to be a hired assassin. Special Agent Gwen Carver, who has been diligently tracking Emma for a considerable period, reveals Emma's true identity as Anna Peller and discloses that her last known whereabouts were in Berlin. Initially, Dave dismisses this information with laughter, but soon the gravity of the situation sinks in. Returning home, he stumbles upon Emma's hidden possessions in the attic, which include various disguises, passports with different names, and concealed firearms.
